Audi S4 B8: Reliability@80-100k+ miles (inc. sport diff/ADS)
Discussion
I’m looking to get a B8 S4 manual in the near future, although the S5 V8 is still tempting...
These seem to have a good rep on here, with plenty of S4 owners around. However, as some of these are now more than 10 years old, are these older models still a sensible purchase?
I’ve read tonnes of S4 threads - I’m still working my way through the mammoth B8 S4 Ownership one here - and understand there are a few weak points, but what are the key ones to watch out for with early, relatively high mileage manual models? And are there any particularly big bills/servicing milestones to be wary of?
Everyone raves about the sport diff and adaptive suspension, but at what age/mileage do these need servicing/replacing and what’s the typical cost for that? Having the diff appeals, but will steer clear if they’re starting to cost many thousands to service/replace. How many miles/years do the clutch/flywheel typically last and what would you expect to pay to replace these?
I’m happy to put some money in to maintain an S4, but would be good to have an idea of how much might be needed and when!
Thanks for your insight. I’ve had BMWs for the last six years, but not too savvy on what to watch out for with used Audis.
