Golf mk6 RNS 510 Headunit issues - Vag Com
Discussion
I recently purchased a Golf MK6 60 plate which hadn't been used for over 12 months so had a few issue. I managed to clean it up and got it through its MOT and now the only really issue with it is the headunit. Its an RNS 510, which didn't work, other than the lights on the buttons, so I've borrowed an RCD 510 from my nethew so at least I got radio whilst sorting a new RNS 510. Anyway, I've purchased another RNS 510 off ebay which is the exact same part number and built within a month of my original, so I thought it would be a simple swap. The new unit does work with radio, phone and sat nav etc but there is no sound at all coming out of it. Oh and the pdc doesn't work through it.
Would anyone know if this is likely to be a faulty unit or need some sort of coding? I don't know anyone who has the equipment for coding, is it a simple cable that connects to the car and then to your laptop and if I were to buy one what I am looking for? as I've seen lots of different prices on ebay for various cables.
TIA

I would imagine the unit you have may have come from a car that had a different audio config (ie a Passat or a car with dynaudio) and no pdc.
Any company that is a VW specialist will have the correct software, or there are loads of people on VW forums who can code it for you.
Thanks for that. I did do a bit more research and found the same has happened to others and the cause was the sound set up was different in the previous car. I'd guess it's the same for the PDC in that case.Any company that is a VW specialist will have the correct software, or there are loads of people on VW forums who can code it for you.
I've not really been on any VW forums since I had a MK4 R32 16 years ago so I'll have a look to see what VW forums are popular now.

It's a bit of a gamble unfortunately if you don't have your own OBD11 or something. I have one and would be happy to do yours after lockdown if you're local (I'm near Cambridge).
Btw, forget the cable thingys on ebay. The one you want now is OBD11. It is a lot cheaper and easier to use even though you do have to pay for "pro" to do coding.

I did a bit of research in to the various diagnostic cables and have decided to get the Ross-Tech hex net pro, just looking around now to find the best price.Btw, forget the cable thingys on ebay. Thanks for your offer though but I’m not local to you.
