Hi

I'm desperately in need of some help, we lost two cars this morning from Banbury, the cars were an Audi A1 and Audi S4 Avant, taken by a gang of 4 who took the keys from inside our house.

We had the Audi App setup on the A1 (less than a year old) and have been able to track the car, its now been recovered in Solihull, the biggest issue is my S4, we don't have the App setup but I do know it has the same telematics setup as the A1 (the S4 is two years old).

Is all hope lost and I just keep my fingers crossed that someone spots it, or is there someone at Audi that I can speak to who can access the tracking data for my car ? I cant be the only person who has lost a car and then needed assistance to track it ?

Hindsight is great and yes I know I should have had the App setup for the S4.

Any help will be greatly appreciated ..

Thanks

Suggest you either speak to your local dealer or directly to Audi, they would be best placed to advise you if the system can be activated remotely.

Tried Audi Direct, via call centre and twitter, seems to be a lot of "not sure that's possible", it may well be that i'm not describing the issue correctly.

Thanks

I’ve just handed my S4 back but I’m 99% sure you just download the Audi app to your smartphone and enter your vin details... you then may need the code that comes on the little plastic key ring... probably be with your car manual somewhere.

You basically just need to turn your phone into a key and activate yourself as a key user. I don’t think you need to be in the car to do this.

I might be wrong and there may be something you need to “turn on” in the car on the MMI but I can’t remember... worth downloading anyway and seeing what the app asks for.

Lots of knowledgable folk here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... (S5 and S4 use the same MMI).

You may want to ask your question in there.

Hope it helps.

Call your insurance company first thing in the morning.

They're the ones with the most interest in recovering it, I'm sure they'll know.

These types of cars are often parked up and left for a few days to see if they get recovered down to trackers.

There's a chance the S4 might be close to where the A1 was found.

Police and insurance are aware, its a good point that they will be doing everything they can to recover, I may just need to be patient, i'm tempted to take a drive tomorrow and look in the general area for the S4 ...

Genuine question. Surely an insurance pay out would be the best result?

Perhaps not if they've no gap insurance?

If they are on finance then the payout from the insurance might not leave enough to settle the finance?
Could be a top spec car that will be hard to find on the used market?

Thats pretty much spot on, now discovering what a minefield it is getting finance on a lease paid off, Audi wont tell me a settlement figure and LV want me to take Fair Market Value, I have no idea what the difference might be, I assume Audi would want (Fair Market Value) + (remaining lease payments) + (excess mileage) ?

Bit hard to figure out what to do, clearly I can just let LV speak to Audi FS, that doesn't seem like a great idea as LV will go for the lowest value they can get away with, I end up carrying the shortfall ..

Finally, I still have no idea until this is all settled whether GAP insurance would have helped ..

Does sound like quite a pickle you've got yourself into.

I may be over thinking the whole process and should just let LV speak with Audi and let them figure it out, would be great to hear from anyone who has been through a similar process ...

If you have leased the car not PCP or HP... as this happened to me..

- LV will pay out Audi FS, you are not involved in that transaction, as you are not the owner of the asset
- Any Gap insurance you had, would only cover your insurance excess with LV, unless you took a policy that cared for your initial lease payments?
- If you did lease, you will be left with no car and the lease contract will be terminated once LV settle

Good luck OP - was a right PITA for me..
