hello there..

could anyone please have a look (listen) to this video of a serious clunking, crunching, grinding kind of noise that's coming from the driver's side front wheel area and that is becoming increasingly worse.

https://watch.wave.video/5ec29fe746e0fb0030929f99

it mostly (sometimes only) occurs when turning right (worsening the more the wheel is turned) at slow speeds especially uphill..

it's a passat estate tdi 1.9 2004

any opinions would be really appreciated, cheers!

Can only be one of -

- CV joint as already suggested (but I've never heard one like that)

- Wheel bearing (would have to be seriously buggered to make that noise).

Something contacting the brake cover plate.

If you jack that wheel up, is there any play in the wheel?

Do you feel vibration under acceleration?

I wouldn't be wanting to drive it very far without checking it out!

no play in the wheel..

i've had a mechanic look under it quickly (here in portugal) and he tells me he thinks it's to do with the transmission . .

this kind of made sense to my very limited knowledge, since the click noise is the same as i hear when i make a gear change . .

also, if i drop it out of gear whilst making the turn the noise stops..
