Hi everybody,

Planning to buy a C6 A6, saw some nice 3.2 V6s for sale, but it seems that the timing chain guides wear with catastrophic consequences and are not a simple/cheap work to do the preventive maintenance.

I don't know any garage well enough willing ti spend their time answering this kind of question, so I need your experience here.

What would be the average cost to replace the timing chain guides on a 2007 A6 3.2 V6 Quattro?

Regards

More than the car is worth, judging by the experience of a friend who had to have this done when the car was too new to be beyond economic repair. Engine out job (twice in the end, as they cocked it up!)

Buy on condition and plan to throw it away at the first sign of trouble. Quite common for them to throw engine warning lights once the chains have stretched to the point the banks no longer align properly, but a fault scan is advisable before purchase
