Hi All,

The window on my son's Polo is stuck open. It has been intermittent for a while but yesterday opened and did not close.

I have managed to take off the door card and can see the motor.....but for now is there a way of manually closing it?

I have tried to pull the window up by hand but it moves about 1cm and then is solid.

Any help appreciated.

Has the window been going down OK, but not wanting to come back up ?

That's symptomatic of the anti-trap protection kicking in - could be down to the window getting tight in the rubber seals. Best option there would be to remove the door card and give everything (including the tracks in the door frame) a liberal coating with a silicon lubricant.

I seem to recall there was a window reset on VWs where you inserted the key into the driver's door lock, turn it and hold it. May be worth a go.

If the window issue affects both directions (and both switches), it's more likely to be a wiring fault. Again, removing the door card may be required to investigate this further.

Could try putting some strong tape on the window in several places and pulling it up.

On some days it will go up and down on other days it doesn't.

Sounds like a electrical problem.

With thunderstorms on their way, I thought there might be a manual wind option, if I took the door card off?

Quick update,

I took an early lunch (working from home!) and took everything off and gave it a WD40'ing !

Now went up like a dream!

Probably better using silicone in the guides than WD-40 (thinking about the rubber), but glad you've got it sorted thumbup
