Hi
Looking at an Audi 2013 TTRS, not a lot of knowledge about them, just wondering of any major positives or negatives?
Grateful for any input.
Thanks.

I am interested in opinions on the MK2 TTRS, quite fancy a manual one.

I've read the manual gearbox doesn't do well if the power is increased.

Hmm, will look into that, seen a few with 500 bhp but the DSG seems to be preferred by a lot but I think some of that might be as its a few tenths quicker in acceleration tests and a lot of the owners were fixated on getting the best times when they came out, been there with my M135i and realised not arsed over a few tenths and prefer the interaction a manual brings, but not if it leave a trail of cogs if you hoof it, or slips the clutch.

Wet clutches in the DSG can handle more torque

Didn't the TT RS only come with the seven speed DSG? Which is a dry clutch, not wet.

There are different versions of the 7spd, some wet, some dry, the dry clutch versions were used on the small low power stuff.

Yes, think you're right. Dont think the dry ones could handle to torque?

Owned mine just over a year now albeit a 2009 model which is a manual.

It has a fantastic sound track from the 5 pot.
It goes really well, it's a bit old school with the turbos fully spooling higher up the rev range and shooting off.
So far hasn't cost to much to run, I had a full big service at a well regarded specialist which only cost £260. Couple of tyres replaced at about £140 each- Goodyears on 19inch wheels.
Surprisingly gets a lot of positive attention, and personally i still think it looks a great car.

Some of the negatives, the exhaust can drone, this can sometimes frustrate especially as i use it as the daily commuter car. The bose sound system (which is reasonably good) is usually turned up to drown out the drone.
The 'infotainment' is (unsurprisingly) outdated, i have to use the AUX to connect my phone for music, so no changing tracks with the steering wheel etc. Although on the rare occasion i use the sat nav i do like that it shows the directions on the screen between the speedometer and rev counter (cannot for the life of me think what its called).
Quattro has been a little unpredictable on the very rare occasion, what you anticipate should happen it does the opposite. Maybe i just wasn't used to it after coming from RWD car previously.
Biggest negative is the amount of idiots who feel the need to ride off your rear bumper, try over take etc etc. its become infuriating.

Some things to looks out for.
Window motors tend to fail so worth winding up and down the window and listen/watch for anything unusual
The glove box hinge tends to fail. basically my glove box won't go fully down and springs up.

Check the front discs and pads have been recently done, they can cost about £900 to replace.

It took me a while to like mine, at first i was a but meh when i bought it. But the more i drive it the more i like it.

Sticks.

Given the improvements made to the Mk3, might not a Mk3 TTS be better vfm?

This is a good shout.

The mk3 TTS is far superior, and can be had with a manual gearbox.

I hated the dsg on the TTRS.

Fine when on the power going up the box, but the delays at slow speeds, and the delay when needing power quickly for an overtake, were awful.

The only thing that would get me into a TT, is the 5 cylinder engine.

Had mine with DSG 2yrs never ever had any of what your describing at all? Always very crisp precise change at a blink of an eye, no problems in traffic jams/traffic etc....only thing that annoys me it that mine (other have it) does not have hill assist so when in a long line of stationary traffic either neutral or foot on brake as i don't think the handbrake neutralises the clutch at standstill.

Very good Mpg considering, services cheap enough & Haldex & DSG changes are not expensive either, as long as you have these at the prescribed intervals then there should be no reason for the problems you say you have encountered, sounds as though your was worn or broken...

When you are at steady at 50mph put your foot hard down and tell me how many seconds before the car takes off

Do you have a MK2 or MK3?
