C8 Audi A6 pre-sense / lane departure glitches
Discussion
Hi all,
There have been numerous reports on various threads here regarding a software issue on the latest shape C8 Audi A6.
I have a 19 plate 40TDi and from day one it had the annoying glitch where you get a barrage of error warnings in relation to lane departure system / presense / active beam assist etc which you can’t get rid of until the car is fully locked up and left. I believe it’s some issue with the front camera glitching.
The issue is triggered by starting the car up. Then switching it off after a few minutes without actually locking it and leaving it (e.g you start the car, realise you’re forgot your wallet, switch it off while you run inside to grab the wallet and then get back in and start it up again). If you do that it triggers a load of errors and leaves an orange warning ?? triangle on the dash.
This issue seemed to go away after a few months. I put it down to a software update which the car regularly applies remotely. But just recently after a year of no issues, the problem has returned. Is it a coincidence that it went for an oil change and the Audi dealer helpfully applied the latest software update for me.
Sigh.
So, before I return to the dealer does anyone know what the actual fix is for this? It would make my conversation easier with the dealer if I know what it needs.
This is just one of the many niggles I have with this car. I hate the bloody thing but it’s on a lease so gotta stick with it for a bit longer.
Any advice?
Ta!

My 68 reg A6 went in for an air con re-gas a fortnight ago (don’t get me started on that as I don’t think it should have been required in a car less than 2 years old but what can you do!) while it was in it had a MMI software update and the Camera / Pre-Sense software update. My car did what you described and a few times it has failed to start. Since the update I’ve tried to get it to do throw the faults up a few times and so far it hasn’t done it.
So in summary, looks like the software update has worked.
Good luck booking your car in to get it done though as had to tell the service department four times that there is an update and it needed doing. The third time I told them they told me the error was due to condensation on the windscreen. They had to do the MMI update first before the camera update was available on their system.

That’s really helpful! Thanks. Out of interest how do you rate the car in general? I really haven’t gelled with mine. I also run a 12 year old Merc and I have to say...I prefer it! The Audi seems poorly designed, rushed through without proper testing. My other gripe is the blooming rattles and creaks from the dashboard. I simply can’t be arsed to try and get them sorted as it’s leased and it doesn’t bother me too much as I don’t have any interest or love for the car. If I’d spent £40k on buying one as a car to run for years I’d be seriously unimpressed. As it is I’m just looking forward to changing it for something else when the lease is up. Probably back to Mercedes for me. First and last Audi.
I’m the same, the rattles and creaks are f
king irritating but I can’t be arsed sending back to Audi again and having another argument with them to get it fixed. The build quality of the dash is piss poor, if you turn the music up the car vibrates like hell.
Mine’s been back for warranty work 3 times, the best one was I kept getting tyre pressure warnings after about 3 miles in to a journey. It turned out that when I went to pick the car up, when I bought it, they noticed it had a puncture so the dealer replaced the tyre with a non-acoustic tyre, the rest of the tyres were acoustic so it kept confusing the system!
The gear box is frustrating slow to react, her in doors has a BMW which is so much better. We went up to the Lakes a few weeks ago and it was woeful of country lanes, it was better in sport mode.
The fuel economy is good and it’s a great mile muncher on the motorway, which is where I spend most of my time, the sat nav and mmi in general is good and the ‘My Audi’ app always seems to work well, but it takes a few minutes for the car to sign in when you set off.
I bought mine with cash and it seemed like a good deal, 6 months old with £12k off new price. I want to change it for something a bit more reliable but I don’t know to change it for at the moment, I’m thinking BMW after driving the wife’s, it’s a lot better to drive.

Interesting. Your gripes mirror mine. The pull away lag on the gearbox at junctions took some getting used to initially. Requires a change in driving style. I always pop it into sport at junctions or country roads. But overall it’s not impressive. At home on motorways as you say. But not much good at anything else!! Even the boot is surprisingly small!
