Does anyone know if I can have my car serviced at any place, and claim under the Audi extended warranty if there is a fault?

Depends on the terms of the warranty - you'll need to read the warranty docs carefully......

The supplier of Audi warranties has changed over the years, as have the terms, so even if I told you what my expired warranty required, it won't apply to yours

I am hoping so and reassured by our local VAG Indy, Vasstech

My A6 has the factory optioned 4yr warranty and will expire at the year end, I’ll then whack the extended on.

Do check the small print - my official extended warranty (old supplier) had a requirement for main dealer only servicing.....

I would send them an email and clarify.
They were helpful in determining the impact of fitting an after market exhaust.

From the Ts&Cs from the Cover Booklet provided when I renewed mine earlier this year:

Servicing must be carried out in accordance with vehicle
manufacturer recommendations. Genuine Audi components,
oils and other fluids or components, oils and other fluids of
equivalent specification and matching quality must be used.
Failure to comply with this condition will result in a warranty
claim being rejected.

Failure to keep your vehicle serviced in accordance with the
manufacturer’s service schedule will void the warranty. You
must keep all servicing receipts and invoices. We will be
entitled to check that your vehicle has been serviced
regularly and may ask to see these in the unlikely event that
the condition of your vehicle does not appear to correspond
with your vehicle service schedule.

..so provided your indie uses VAG, or VAG spec stuff and sticks to the service schedule, you'll be fine.
