My daughter is considering a secondhand GTe DSG as a second car. I think this car has a 1.4 petrol engine. I'm not up on VW group products, but seem to recall that some engines and/or gearboxes have weak spots, ( I don't mean diesel gate issues). Do all GTes have DSG 'boxes? Any issues there? Thanks in advance for any help.

No issues with the MK7 DSG whatsoever.

Just service every 40k so look out for that.

Yes DSG only - you do realise the GTE is a plug in hybrid? The 1.4 tsi engines in mk7 golfs are excellent. Tag on an electric motor they are a fairly nippy car - not the greatest steer due to the extra weight from the batteries and electric motor.

We've had a GTE for 2.5 years. No trouble and I love it. It works very well as an electrical car giving around 20 miles range and is nippy upto the legal limit.

In GTE mode its very quick. In my view one of the best electric / hybrid cars around and I've driven loads over the years.
