Another "what car should I get" - Seat Ateca or Leon Estate?
Discussion
Hello,
I've been looking for a new car for ages, as my wife's recently had a baby and I've got a golf at the minute that barely fits the pram in the boot.
I'm trying to find an auto, big car, that is still quick enough for motorway driving, so looked at A4 Avants, Passats, Mondeos and Kia Sportages, alongside an Ateca and a Leon estate. I think I've narrowed it down to the Leon Estate (probably a 1.4tsi FR or the 2.0 tdi FR), or a standard Ateca 1.4 Ecotsi SE.
I'm struggling to pick between the two, so wondered if there were any owners of either on here that could give any pros/cons of either please?

It's really down to whether you want a higher up driving position or not. It does make life a bit easier with a baby seat, but possibly a bit trickier with the pram.
I don't have much experience of the Ateca but have quite a lot with the Tiguan (which is the same car). I have a Leon estate.
I think the Tiguan is slightly more roomy but there really isn't much in it. You lose a bit of boot space due to the sloping rear end on the Leon, which isn't as noticeable on the SUVs.

Looked at both Ateca and Leon as replacement for a Ford Kuga.
Ended up with a new Leon Cupra ST (estate). Military discount definitely helped!!
I would say that the Leon boot is far more usable than the Ateca's (which is taller but shorter front to back) plus you can use the 'hidden' area under the boot floor for extra storage.
My family are all grown up but I can get luggage and skis for three people in the Leon which I wouldn't have been able to do in the Ateca.
Also the Cupra is about as quick as my TVR

On the practical side of things, babies aren't in prams for that long before they move into push chairs and then buggies, either Leon or Ateca would be fine there. Kids do stay in car seats of different sizes for a long time, and it's probably easier on your back to get them in and out of a car seat in the Ateca.
I've owned a couple of Leon FRs and now got a Karoq - the Leon handles way better and is fast enough with the torquey diesel. The Karoq has a much better ride, obviously you sit higher up if that's important, leans a bit in the corners but is overall very relaxing.
If you are likely to be on your own in the car more often than with the family I'd go for the Leon, but if you want the comfier ride for all of you then the Ateca.

Sounds like you want a 4wd estate and I've always fancied a Passat Alltrack?
To be honest the Kia Sportage and Ford Mondeos are big cars but suffer with small boots. Even my Focus has more room than a Mondeo.
If it were me I'd probably go Leon I did test drive one in 2015 but didn't like the interior, then 2018 had a week in a Skoda Octavia 2.0tdi VRS and enjoyed it but if it were automatic I guess I'd want an automatic epb as well so that's back to VW Passat or Golf.

Thanks for the replies.
Went with the Ateca - my wife was moaning she didn't have enough legroom in the back of the Leon. She sits in the back next to the baby in the car seat. I explained she could sit in the front and solve all that, but found an Ateca in great condition, so went for that, it's getting delivered today or tomorrow depending on when they can do it.

I've have loved the Cupra Leon - almost got one on a lease a few months ago, then realised it would have cost more than my mortgage after monthly payment, petrol, insurance etc., so had to say no.Ended up with a new Leon Cupra ST (estate). Military discount definitely helped!!
