Hi,

A mate has a 1.6TDI 2010 Leon.
It has randomly started cutting out.
Main dealer has had a few punts looking at it & is now suggesting that the windsceen has unbonded and water has damaged the ECU.
Circa £6k for them to replace.

Is this a known issue at all?
Any ideas on a more reasonable fix? Do the ECU repair companies work?

Cheers!

Get it over to a decent indie VW/SEAT garage. £6k is a "go away, we don't have a clue and don't want this job" quote as that must be more than the vehicle is worth.

Sounds about right. Will be a few weeks to get the new ECU in as well.

Never had any luck repairing them.

Get a used, identical unit and have it cloned. Water damaged units often remain readable even when not fully functional. Did just this very recently, I wonder if we might even be talking about the same person...

I suspect could get a whole new replacement engine with matching ECU for less than that!

I suspect at the age of the car, it's a replacement car or 2

Which would then give communication errors with every other module in the car.

Pre-CANBUS you could do similar.

Thanks all. Main dealer took one more run at it & thinks they have fixed it....
Only £220 apparently.
Mate just needs to get the screen rebonded now apparently.....
Fairly sure i'll pick him up on the motorway in a weeks time.

Wow a £6k quote down to a £200 repair. No wonder main dealers have a bad rep.
