RS4 Convertible
Discussion
Evening all,
I am currently looking to change to an RS4 convertible but all the really good ones I enquire about appear to have been sold the day before
I am after any purchasing advise that you could kindly give, mainly in the right direction to look as I am trying to find more specialist web sites without much success so far.
Do I need to join an owners club perhaps to help or would a specialist dealer be able to help me source the right car?
Many thanks in advance
Simon

Things to look out for. If it’s still got the original DRC suspension, listen for knocks from the dampers. It’s a brilliant system but not hugely reliable and is expensive to repair. Many owners replace it with after-market suspension kits such as Bilstein. Mine’s original and has only had one damper replaced in 20k miles.
The intake is prone to carbon build up which saps power. Audi claimed 414bhp but in reality they made about 400. Carbon build up reduces it (mine was 367bhp last year at MRC in Banbury when it went in for carbon cleaning. After, it made 427, which included a stage 2 map). They’re thirsty (no surprise really, it’s a naturally-aspirated V8
). With proper servicing (a full service history is obviously essential), the engine’s pretty bullet-proof and the gearbox is great.
Look out for wear on the seat bolsters if it’s got wing back seats, they can be expensive to repair. They (the seats) also went through a phase of being frequently nicked as they’re popular with the dub scene, so are especially vulnerable in a soft-top. A good alarm/immobiliser is essential.
And that’s about it. The handling and grip is phenomenal. Sure, a RWD car might be more engaging when pushing on, but as an all-rounder the 4WD system is unbeatable IMO. And the V8 sounds great
PS talking about the B7 here

Remap on a B7 S4 does very little; getting one up to RS4 levels of performance would be extremely expensive.
Where does it say it has to be a B7? The B8 has the 3.0TFSI, which is the same engine I have in my S5. A stage 1 APR remap took it from 328 bhp to 450 bhp (rolling road pre and post remap), which is more than the 444 bhp the B8 RS4 produces.Have a look here:

^ that is with a Revo remap - APR is much better in my opinion.

I know this might not be all that popular but did anyone consider a C63 AMG at any point before going for the RS4?
Just wondered as the noise they make is pretty glorious
It is epic sounding. I briefly considered a C63 but went for the RS4 for its all-round ability (as mentioned above). Plus I’m not particularly keen on Mercs; I’ve always preferred BMWs and Audis. The C63 is a great car though. Just wondered as the noise they make is pretty glorious

Ah, I’m with you. I’ve not driven a C63 but have been out in one. It was very rapid, seemed to handle OK and sounded glorious, but it didn’t grab me. I just don’t like the look of the saloon or the estate and preferred AWD, so went for the RS4 as BMW didn’t make an M3 estate. They really missed a trick there.
