RS5 Recent Model History
Discussion
I’ve been looking into getting an RS5 Coupe recently, and I’m struggling to work out exactly what’s happened recently - have there been THREE (?!) recent facelifts??
There’s the 2017 release of the ‘new’ RS5, then a 2019 facelift, then again in 2020 to fit the new particulate filter.... is that correct?
If someone could spell out to me what happened when and what changes were applied it would be a great help as I can’t quite work it out. Also I’ve been offered a brand new 2020 ‘Launch’ model (from dealer stock) but it’s got certain spec items that differ to what’s available now. The whole thing is all over the place.
On a side note, does anyone here have a post particulate filter car? And if so what has it done to the sound of the exhaust?
Thanks in advance.

The 2019/20 facelift comprised a new bumper & grille with an "iconic" gap between grille & bonnet, new headlights, revised side sills, revised rear diffuser, a carbon fibre roof, touch screen MMI & "RS driving modes". Mechanicals are the same.
All down to personal taste, but I find the facelift makes the front of the car too fussy (the bonnet gap & headlight "eye lashes").
I though that GPF was on all 2019/20 facelift models, but not certain. I've not driven a GPF RS5, but I doubt that it will do it any favours.

OP - I have a 2018 RS5, had mine delivered before all this WLTP nonsense and where you could spec it how you wanted. RS5's were not being built for a good 6-8 months during 2018/19. I personally think the new face lift cars make it look allot softer, not as aggressive. GPF will probably impact exhaust sound, not sure on the performance. Still a rare sight on the road.
Just to edit, looks like the newer model is actually circa 50kg heavier than the earlier model, whilst comparing brochures
