Hi,
I've had my cr170 engine for nearly 8 years - owned since 3k on odo and now 77k. Most of my mileage has been longer trips on motorways or a roads. Never had a problem with it.
I've moved house recently and with lock down this car does the school run coveting a 3-6 mile trip on country lanes and faster flowing b roads. No stop start stuff. I do the odd longer journey (say once or twice a month of something 60-100miles) but there isn't really anywhere to go these days.
I've considered selling it to get a petrol as concerned my usage is just going to clog the dpf and egr. However im torn as the car is immaculate and not worth much (worth a lot more to me on balance vs a purchase of something else of similar quality). I've also got 3 petrol modern classics that scratch the petrol itch and getting rid of the diesel might mean a classic has to go too. I wouldn't use the classics in the winter months for the school run.
Am i worrying about nothing on my change in usage? Bare in mind this is coming from someone who takes pride in looking after their cars. What are other people with experience on these engines seeing? I remember the pd versions with dpfs were not good on short journeys.
Cheers
