B8 2016 Passat estate boot won’t shut

Strange issue has just developed on our 2016 B8 model Alltrack estate, the tailgate won’t properly latch shut. It will partially shut such that it’s on the latch but not fully closed. Slamming it doesn’t help and locking / unlocking makes no difference. Regularly carry a dog in the back so it’s a bit of a concern. Anyone else has this issue?
