Hi All.

I have just put a deposit down on a 2007 VW Golf 1.4 TSI GT due to collect Wednesday. The car is in really nice condition, engine runs super quiet, only 54k on the clock, the current owner has had the car for the last 12 years and had it fully serviced each year at a VAG specialist. So all things considered, it looks good and I felt confident in my choice.

I come home to do a bit more googling on the car to see if there are any known issues I may have missed and I stumble upon the horror of all these timing chain problems other owners seem to have with the TSI engine, particularly the 168bhp version in the car I went to see. Engines blowing up, massive repair costs and complete car write offs.

To cut a long story short, should I avoid this car with a barge pole or is it not as bad as people make it out to be?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

that's the twin charged 1.4 isnt it?

Lots of them suffered major oil consumption issues.

What sort of warranty you get with it?
I'd get 1000 miles under it's belt ASAP to see if it's one that drinks oil.
