Golf R / Mk7 2016 Interior light query

Any owners on here help me please? Dad has a 66 plate manual R, and has an issue with his interior light that either won't go off or won't go on when it should!
There are four switches in the roof section, left front interior light, right front interior light, rear interior lights and one that has a picture of the "car with door open" sign, which I guessed would be the one you press to have the light go on and off with the door opening, but alas no.
When he locks it at night, the interior blue door strips, footwell lights (and dashboard lights for a minute or so) will not turn off. The interior lights come on when you switch them on with those roof switches but do not come on/off with the door openings.
Any idea if this is normal or where I should start?
