Different Tyres Front and Rear Axle on Quattro
Discussion
Hi all, looking for you advice regarding a potential issue I’m having with an Audi A3 Quattro I’ve just bought. I have owned an Audi S5 in the past so have had experience of Quattro ownership.
I picked the A3 up last Friday and noticed there is a rumble from the back when accelerating normally pulling away from junctions or speeding up a bit in towns. I may be wrong but I’m guessing it’s drive related. Having checked the tyres I have discovered the car is fitted with different brand - although identical sized - tyres on the front and rear. My question is: could this be causing the rumble/low vibration sound? I know Audi state that you should have 4 tyres of the same brand, type, etc.
The car is a 17 reg with only 35k miles on the clock, so I would be doubtful there’s a mechanical fault at this stage. It would be good to get some opinions before it goes back to the dealership to get looked at in just over a week, just in case they attempt to fob me off with excuses.
The tyres are BF Goodrich on the rear and Continentals on the front.
Edited to say: would also welcome people telling me the noise is normal, ?? although my S5 didn’t do it, and it really doesn’t seem normal for such a new car.
