6k Workhorse what engine/ model for reliability
Discussion
Good morning!
I am opting out of our company car scheme to help fund our new family car and need to buy a car for work duties.
I am not to clued up on the reliability of VAG engines and cars as if I recall the 1.4tsi engines had a lot for bad press, are the 1.6 NAs any good? And are the 1.6tdi/2.0tdis as reliable as the 1.9s?
I have a budget of 6k(ish) and will be traveling between 15-20k per year and plan to keep the car three years, petrol OR diesel.
Hatchback, saloon and estate all considered - the main requirement is reliability as it will be driving over the country to remote sites.
I have also budgeted £600 per year for maintenance too FYI.
Thanks!

You don’t talk about size etc.
If it is just to get you to a place I would go small Japanese and petrol, not even turbo.
Yes it’s harder on fuel but will be the most reliable car TBH
I’m not dependent on size and happy to consider hatches, saloon and estates - doing up to 20k per year is rather it wasn’t a tin box on wheels though. If it is just to get you to a place I would go small Japanese and petrol, not even turbo.

Have you got any recommendations of NA jap cars that would fit the bill?
