Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a face-lift c7 S6 saloon and most of them on sale are black editions.

What are the main differences with the interior spec. Is the non tech pack sat nav any good as I've noticed there isn't the mouse pad for typing in postcodes, does the non tech pack sat nav display in between the speedo and rev counter?

Was full leather stamdard? I've found one with half leather which I think looks nicer and will age better.

Was air suspension an extra and how is it compared to a spring set up?

Do they map well? I have a dtuk box from my old 67 plate s4 and that made a big difference.

Is there anything else I need to know?

Thanks

Mat

The optional tech pack is worth it, the screen is bigger and you get the map between the dials also, the standard one is quite small and basic.
Air is standard on the S6, as is the sport diff on the black edition.
Leather and heated seat are standard, they should come with the same seats as the RS6 unless the "optional comforts" are fitted, mine has those and they're actually not bad.

Mapping to stage one more or less gives it RS6 power (520-540ish from memory), but it is reported that the normal S6 on super unleaded does push power up anyway, I noticed a big difference on mine once on 99 (Standard)
If I hang onto mine and once its out of warranty I will look at mapping.

Things to watch are making sure its been serviced ontime and the S-tronic has had its fluids done (think every 35-40K), I did mine at 28K as better safe than sorry. The rest seems pretty solid, they can eat tires and brakes, so would check those out, also make sure they haven't stuck ditch finders on to save money...

Thanks for your pointers.

I didn't realise air suspension and sports diff was standard on black edition.

Some of the adds said tech pack but the buttons instead of mouse pad thingy suggest that those cars had non tech pack sat nav.

No worrys, I think the standard one gained the diff around 2017MY change but BE's always have had it.

Yup the tech pack should have the key pad / touchpad. The non tech pack ones had chrome horizonal lines on them so you cant scribe the letters.
If you've got a link post it up, I can have a look over for you, I was looking for 12 months before I found the right one for me, even then had to compromise a little as they're so rare

I'm thinking this one as one of the only ones on auto trader with tech pack and an unusual colour blue with black interior.

In the end I purchased a non black edition 2016 in sepang blue with a load of optional extras including soft close doors. Plus it has just under 23000 miles on it.

They are a bit muted in the exhaust noise department but I can live with that as the comfort and way it picks up speed with all that torque is nice.

Looks lovely welcome to the clan!

The exhaust is a little muted but don't forget the S6 has active noise cancelling which will make it sound louder (Not much but better) If i can find teh VCDS adaptions to remove it I'll post it up. Not got round to trying mine, as well as lowering the air suspension.
I've been considering have the front resonators (exhaust silencers) removed to get more V8 sound but as yet not gone that way.

I know a guy who lowered latest sq5 on air suspension and it handled like a go cart.

I'm not sure what's involved, is it compressor settings or more involved than that? I'm sure I've seen a lowering module on the Internet somewhere.

I've read loads about the exhaust but even modified they seem to sound a bit rough rather that the amg 4.0v8 epic exhaust tone.

Resonator deletes on these just make them sound droning and farty. Not good.

If you have VCDS or know someone with it there's a procedure to change the height, you cant do it as dynamically as those plug in modules but looks easy enough to do

Will it lower it more than the lowest current setting and by how much?

Yeah they sound pants. I wonder why they don't sound like the Mercedes 4.0 v8 that's used in c63 as they sound really nice.
