Hello, the users manual for our 2006 volkswagen polo says the radio code is on the unit card, I assume it means the card shown below but none of the codes on there are four digits - there are a few with letters and digits. Which bit is it? I obscured all the characters but hopefully you can see enough.

Difficult to say as someone has scribbled over it.

But if you look closely, there's a key at the bottom that will surely tell you if it is.

Not sure if this'll work but I only spent 3 seconds on Google

Yeah I did that, didn't have time to research which bits are or aren't unique to this car or otherwise best kept private.

This is what puzzles me. The page about the radio says the code would be be on a "unit card". My intuition is that it is "the" unit card I showed in my OP, because the stuff listed in the key is exactly what I would expect on a car's unique card. But there aren't any four-digit codes on it.

So one way to ask my question could be "is the card in my OP THE Unit Card"?

Yeah it seems you do have to pay, and you have to get the radio out to find the number.
