Morning all,

My wife is contemplating chopping in her petrol 2.0 Q3 black edition for a petrol SQ5.

She wants something a bit bigger that's more comfortable towing, and she hates diesel.

Doesn't seem they made them for very long, or made too many of them.

Anyone owned one? Any common faults? Opinions?

Thanks smile

I have a 2018 petrol SQ5. Owned it for 18 months now and on the whole its been good. It was this or an X3 M40i for me.

Yes you are correct they only made the petrol SQ5 in 2017 and 2018, with a few late cars registered in early 2019. From mid 2019 onwards they only came in diesel form.

MPG wise I see around 22mpg around town and 35mpg on a good motorway run. Mines had a few recalls (fixed under warranty) including: replacement brake servo, replacement steering rack, modification to the rear arches as there was a recall as some SQ5 owners reported rear arches coming loose. Build quality is good although some people complain that the 2017 onward SQ5's don't have the same quality of the previous gen SQ5's as the 2017> cars are built in Mexico and not in Germany.

Must haves on an SQ5: 21" alloys, virtual cockpit, flat bottom steering wheel, B&O sound/comfort and sound pack, rearview camera and hillhold assist, carbon inlays. Some people want the pan roof but I didn't want this as there's too many complaints about pan roof rattles (besides I don't see the point of all that heavy glass above your head).

Most of the SQ5's will come on Pirelli P Zeros - they wear out shocking quick! Just recently swapped all 4 on mine with Michellin PS4 - budget between £800 - £1k for a full set of new boots.

Servicing at Audi is expensive - £350 for an oil inspection (oil and oil filter change!). A good independent will be cheaper.

Let me know if you need any more info on these cars.

Great stuff, thanks for posting.

Couple of questions though, why the flat bottomed steering wheel? She has it in her Q3 and I hate it. It's not a single seater, what's the point?

Or is something else about the flat bottomed steering wheel that makes it good?

Same with the wheels? Why the 21s? Don't they come in 20 as well? What's the benefit of 21s? Just aesthetics?

She definitely wants the comfort & sound pack, does that come with memory seats?

And yeah, she wants the camera again, makes hitching up and obviously generally parking, easier.

The one she's currently looking at has 4 new PS4's, so that's good, as they seem to be £260/corner at the moment.

Wasn't aware there were so many recalls, will be sure to check they've been actioned on anything we're seriously looking at.

Servicing will be done at the family indy, so not too concerned about that, but any major reliability issues to be concerned about?

Does yours have air suspension? Worth it? Problematic?

Thanks

Flat bottom steering wheel - for looks/resale tbh.

21" alloys - again for the looks/resale although 20" alloys will be just as good - tyres will be cheaper too?

Don't think they come with memory seats? At least mine don't have them.

Yep, definately confirm that all recalls have been completed on any potiential purchase.

No reliability issues on mine and no mine doesn't have air suspension so can't comment on that.

Cheers
