Passat CC Towbar

Anyone have any detailed knowledge on installing towbars on c.2013 VW's please? I want to fit a towbar to my CC, but I believe its CANBUS wiring and therefore needs a dedicated loom and controller.
I've looked at installing one myself but it needs half the car stripping out and wiring run all the way to the fuse box and splicing in to existing connectors. Professional install is £460 for this (with a detachable towbar)!!!
Since then, I've heard of other people fitting them with a universal wiring kit. Is this asking for trouble? My understanding is that the car needs to 'know' if something is connected for ABS and park sensors to function correctly. I assume that having a fixed bar will interfere with parking sensors?
