Golf GTi Mk7.5 LSD
Discussion
Hi, I’m looking at a March 2018 GTi (230bhp model) and the main dealer description states “XDS plus electronic differential lock”. Is this the same LSD fitted to the Performance Pack (245bhp) cars?
Also, does the Standard facelift Mk7.5 GTi have smaller brakes than then equivalent Performance Pack car? From what I can tell both the std car and performance cars have the same red callipers.
Just looking for some answers before considering which to go for 🙂

I don’t believe the diffs are the same - the standard one is just electronic management of wheel spin through brake application (IIRC) so you will need to seek out the PP if you want the proper LSD. Note the LSD in the PP requires an oil change that dealers don’t always remember to tell the owner needs doing….
Not sure on 7.5, but certainly on 7 that I have the PP has red callipers signify bigger brakes than the standard car. Best bet is google for a brochure for the year you want and read up on the differences

XDS just nibbles the brakes to 'mimic' an LSD. This is what standard cars have.
VAQ differential uses a Haldex clutch to 'lock' the front axle. This is what Performance Pack cars have.
PP cars use S3/Golf R brakes and have larger calipers with 'GTI' script on them.
If you can, get the Performance Pack. It lets you have a lot of fun in the 'second half' of a corner, in that post-apex you can comfortably begin feeding power in rather than waiting for a straight to open it up.
