Just returned from a family holiday in our trusty Tiguan 2wd diesel and whilst also prompting me that it now wants to be serviced a couple of electrical issues have appeared, they may be related or just two things gone wrong at once...

First is the fuel gauge - it sometimes doesn't move at all. I know there's fuel in there and even when it was pretty low the warning light didn't illuminate. The on board computer will read "---" miles remaining as it can't get a reading from the tank. Other times you'll switch the ignition on and it will work as normal.

Second thing is the parking sensors. The Tiguan has sensors all-round, visible on the front and rear bumpers, but how does it sense what's "next" to it? The car is constantly chiming that there's an obstacle immediately next to the side of the car, is it reading from the outer-most sensors on the bumpers? It makes the sensors next to useless, because when you select reverse they just go mad with bings and bongs. From the outside, all the sensors are clean.

Could these two issues be in any way related? Perhaps a dodgy battery or earth?

If it's the fuel tank sender I'm struggling to work out which part number suits my specific car, what's the best way to find out?

Finally, I have VCDS and the cable which I used to program some options, is this any good as a tool for fault-finding?

Thanks in advance!
