Hi, I'm looking at spending ~£7k on a mk2 TT. This gets me around a Sport model 2009-11 model depending on miles. I prefer the Sport to the S line.
This is the change-over period between the cambelt/chain.
In terms of reliability which is better belt/chain, Auto/Manual...and do the Mk2s of this era wear the miles as well as the mk1s?

Personally I don't think there's much in it. If you've got a car with a belt just make sure it gets changed at the recommended intervals. I don't know if that's an "interference engine" (i.e. pistons hit valves if the belt brakes) but if it is, make doubly sure! Chains are fine and maintenance free unless and until anything goes wrong, which it usually doesn't, and you should usually hear them long before they let go.
