Servicing confusion
Discussion
Hi all,
Picked up my new to me Mk3 Leon FR 1.4 at the weekend. Reg Jun 18, 15K miles on the clock. Bought from a franchised dealer, approved used.
When I viewed the car I was told that it was serviced the month before. When I picked it up they again advised that it was just serviced. On inspection of the book they hadn’t stamped it. It was also serviced in the future apparently which I assumed was just an error in entering the month number (7 not 6) when it was serviced with next service due July 22 apparently.
I queried this and asked for an updated digital service print to confirm dates. Just found out it was actually last serviced in June 20 not 21, although only 4K miles ago. Apparently when the dealer received it they switched it from variable servicing max 20K miles/2 yrs to fixed 10K miles/12 months and were logging this in the book, not a service. They are now telling me that it is due a service in Jun 22 or 6K miles time.
Obviously I feel conned out of a few thousand miles driving before it’s due a service. But more pressing is the fact that if I service it based on mileage it won’t have been serviced for about 16 months (I do around 16K miles a yr) which is within the old variable regime but outside the new fixed schedule. It’s a weird mix now of due service after a 2 yr or 10K mile interval.
Will the car like this? Will it mess with the approved used warranty is another point.
I will take this up with them but just after thoughts.
Cheers!

I would have insisted that they serviced it before picking it up due to the vehicle being changed from a 2 year service plan which was 2018 - 2020 and now in 2021 they have put it on a yearly plan which would mean a service in 2021 then 2022, etc.
To me it’s a good way of them not covering the service cost and you picking the cost up in 4K miles.
Get them to service it at their cost.

Cheers for the input.
I didn’t even know they’d switched it (or even that there was variable servicing as most sources state 10k miles/1 yr). However I explicitly asked when it was last serviced when I viewed it and was told the prev month. When I collected it a diff guy went through the paperwork and stated again that it was serviced by them the prev month. I didn’t notice that the book wasn’t stamped though which is my bad, but it stated the mileage and the date (which was a date actually after I collected it but I didn’t notice that. Afterwards I initially thought it was human error with them writing /7 not /6 in the month which is why I asked for the digital record to go with it.
Apparently they switch all vehicles to fixed servicing as it’s their way. I guess if they left it on variable they’d have just said it’s not due yet as it was done 12 months / 4K miles before?
He’s now said that the date in the book is just showing when they switched it and when it’s next due but it all seems out of whack now.
I’ll push them for a service to set it on an even keel but they’re an hour away unfortunately so will be a hassle even if I get them to agree to it which I’m not hopeful about.

Yeah am going to do that. The service due mileage in the book doesn’t even match what their email has said, they just took the mileage it was advertised at as the current and added 10K whereas they are emailing me saying that it is about 4K less as they’ve taken it from service last year. What a shower.
