My teenage son has passed his test recently and drives an old family mk5 golf. He's driving 20 miles to school and having just had a puncture on the front that looks to be unrepairable we will likely need to replace both front tyres. The rears have fairly good tread still.

My question is should I consider all season tyres on the front now (thinking ahead to winter ). The car had 4 new Goodyear Efficient grip performance tyres early in 2020 / 18k miles ago, so the rears have some life left in them.

Or do I seek out similar good year or other premium summer tyre for the fronts and put all season tyres on when all 4 need replacing next .

Thanks

Stick to the all season, that is what they are for.

Are you both suggesting its ok to put all seasons on the front now ? or do they need to match front and rears ?

Perfectly fine to just put on front.
