Changing discs and pads on 2016 Touran

Hi forum,

I’m trying to do the back brakes on a 2016 touran. If it makes a difference, it’s the 300mm disks (not the 275 that I originally ordered!)

As always there are 2 sets of bolts I _could_ go at..

1 - 14mm spline heads that attach carrier to hub.
Issue: mega torque and I can’t get a good bar on there easily (m14 I have is 3/8” and all my good bars are on a bigger drive).

2 - the bolts that hold the hub to the carrier.
Issue: I can’t work out what the hell heads are on the bolts! They face away from you and i have established:
8mm spline fits but will slip.
8mm Allen key fits but feels loose.
Closest TX star I have is wobbly, didn’t try..

So does anyone recall / know what the right tool is for the calliper to carrier is please?

If not, it’s a case of getting a beefier m14 spline

The caliper carrier bolts can be a real pig to do even with a large power bar, you will struggle if your trying to do it on the floor.
Can you ask a local garage to crack them for you on their ramp for a few quid?

Might be irrelevant, but just did rear brakes on the wife’s s max. Had an electric brake and this video helped.

I'm pretty sure it's an M14 triple square you need for the carrier bolts

Definitely, same as the Cayenne equivalent. They are NOT spline or Torx

From what I can google, "spline" and "triple square" are the same thing - 12 points M14 (versus torx 6 point).

Anyways, I'll now just mail order the bit they don't sell in halfords, and take the carriers off. Pain in the arse they couldn't just use a normal fixing like other people, but Germans will be German! (I'm sure this M14 thing is technically a better solution, but IMO the best solution is to use a fastener that people will have the tools for, not some esoteric bunch of arse)!

Changed rear discs and pads on Tiguan recently. M14 spline. fking tight and hard to get leverage on the ground on axle stands. Managed it though.
