Put diesel Engine Oil in petrol VW tiguan but same spec

Hi,

Hope you are all well.
I have a 2019 VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN R-LINE TSI EVO 150 1.6litre 2019 Petrol automatic Start stop car.

The recommended specification of the engine oil is: synthetic 5w-30

I accidentally poured in 1 litre of this instead: Castrol MAGNATEC 5W-30 C3 Engine Oil 1L (Gasoline Diesel)

Now that I have messed it up, I am thinking what's the easiest way to manage it. I only clock 2000 miles a year.

Can I just top up with the right engine oil and let it be? What's the worst that can happen if I top it up with the right engine oil as my understanding is that it will be changed in the next engine oil change.

I read this as the oil is suitable for both petrol and diesel engines, so you should be absolutely fine.

You will be fine but just look up the correct oil for your car for next time.
It's quite possible the castrol covers it anyway but worth checking.

There will be a high percentage of cars running around with whatever cheap bulk buy oil a garage has thrown into them at service time.
A lot of people with no interest or knowledge of cars just throw in any sort of 'oil' not stopping to think of different viscosity or requirements.
Both of the above scenarios better than cars that either never get serviced or that only have oil added when the low oil level light comes on.
You'll be fine.

Although Diesel specific engine oil hasn't been a thing for years, the main difference was more additives to deal with the soot, otherwise there's no difference.

If anything diesel oil is better than 'normal' oil as DI petrol engines also dump a lot of soot into the oil. Modern synthetics are multi purpose and work fine in both engine types, so don't worry about it. There aren't many engine specific oils around anymore, except maybe 10W60 for BMW M engines, or the VW 5.what ever for early PD engines that suffered from cam wear.
