Hello PistonHeaders

I’m looking to get a C8 RS6. The lowest fully comp insurance quote I’ve had is £4,500! I was thinking ~£1,xxx and it’s putting me right off buying the car!

I live in a nice part of London, park on driveway, held licence for ~25 years, have clean licence, 13 years NCD.

I’ve had performance cars in the past (E63s, C63, 911s, etc) before and insurance has always been below £1k.

What are other owners paying? Who with? Are these cars incredibly nickable? Any other obvious points I’m missing that makes insuring RS6s so expensive?

Thank you

Dr G

Performance/prestige cars in London remain a problem, and yes, an RS6 can be a theft target.

All you can do really is try some of the less mainstream insurers, and mitigate the risk with additional security.

Have you tried Audi's own insurance? They were about 500 quid cheaper than anybody else for me. Comparison sites were a waste of time coming in at well over 3k.

It's a 100k+ car that's a favourite pick for armed robbers. It's never going to be cheap to insure.

Is this genuinely true? I’m not so sure.

How many armed robberies are there per day/week/month? If they all used C8 (or C7) RS6’s it would make the police’s job a lot easier.

How many law abiding owners have been pulled because they are suspected of being tooled up bank robbers?

I know of 3 people who had their cars nicked and used in armed robberies, plus what you read in owners forums. For a fairly rare car I'd consider that a lot.

When I bought mine the dealer said RS3s have it the worst.

I feel for the op yes it's a high value high performance car but those prices are crazy.I know its all relative if you can afford a 100k plus car a few k on insurance is small but insurance companies are really fleecing the general public. All mine went up this year my m135i they wanted £600 at renewal up from £300 last year cheapest online qoute was £650 .Upped the excess and lowered the anyal mileage a bit that bought it down to £475 still a decent jump from last year but expected. My Noble only went up £65 wasn't even going to haggle that as its now only £245 fc .I am 43 full no claims semi rural area.Insurance makes no sense to me my partner just bought a 1.0 eco boost fiesta st line she's 49 full no claims and pays just over £500.How can that make sense she's paying double on a 1.0 than I do on my Noble.I am with priviledge op might be worth giving them a try if you have more than 1 car they do very good multi car policies good luck with it hopefully you find a provider that's more acceptable on price.

Other than Audi the other one I hear is cheap is Admiral, but buyer beware.

Aviva were the next closest for me but still a few hundred quid more, about 1700 iirc.

Hiscox was the cheapest my broker could find for RS6/Vantage/Chimaera. £4,600 for all 3. Ungaraged in Essex.
