The other half has just bought one of these but information on engine oil is surprisingly not concise from what I can see and the digital (sigh
) manual makes no reference to oil weight. It lists the below-

I keep seeing some forum posts mentioning 0W-20 and VW specification 508.00 for the last of the Mk. 7.5's but not sure what to trust. I will of course ask the dealer we bought it from but I have a healthy scepticism so would like some certainty.
Is there also a definitive maintenance schedule anyone can share on intervals for all the usual suspects? I don't know what it is with modern cars but it seems like absolutely everything is done for you to NOT get your hands on this stuff.

If your on long life service then we would use 5/30 long life 3 quantum
If on time and distance then 5/30 plat plus 23 (c2/3oil) quantum
If one of the newer ones that need long life 4 then 0/20 long life 4 quantum
Personally for everyday use I use 5/30 plat plus 23 in mine (Skoda but same engine)
If remapped I think people run a 5/40 millers oil

I've got a 2019 GTI PP
The handbook says vw 504 or 508 spec. Mine has VW history and the dealer has used 0w20 = 508 spec, although at some services the oil spec used is not noted.
Doing the oil changes as per the dash warnings mine goes approx 18K between changes. I dont like that so I do an interim diy oil change after 9K miles. 504 spec is 5w30 thats what i used for my diy oil change.
Comparing like for like - Castrol Edge - the 504 oil was £35 for 4l, 508 was over £50.

Your car will have the vaq diff, this needs doing every 3-4 years or 30k miles depending what comes sooner( this is often overlooked by most dealerships)

All we got was a bloody print-out showing either minor/interim service or major/full service listed with no details of what's been done. It got a major service at 2 years old which doesn't sound right going by the above on the spark plugs. There's absolutely f

It's on a service plan so would have thought anything overdue would have been covered in the service prior to sale but I'm sceptical.
Opie Oils got back to me today and stated 0W-20 with the 508 VW spec.

I've emailed you data from Erwin and as above, I personally would (and do) go with 5w30.
Have just sent you its history; few bits overdue. Diff oil done, never had a major service (although technically there's no such thing). The terms full/major are usually thrown about by people overselling at best an "Oil & inspection" service.

I find it peculiar that a main dealer had the wherewithal to change the oil in the diff yet not change the pollen filter or brake fluid if they're overdue. Given we're on a service plan are VW likely to do these if I point this out or be awkward and wait until the next service is officially due?

Service plans are generally a waste of time. They sound great, and make the sales person a nice comission but are like a cheap set menu in a restaurant. Don't want what's on the menu? Tough. That's what you're getting.

The plan was part of the deal VW are offering to the end of the year on used cars that goes along with the 2 year warranty etc. so we've not paid anything additional so will be taking it to them for the next 2 services.Service plans are generally a waste of time. Do you have a document that details the full service schedule? Everything I've seen or heard regarding gearboxes, diffs, spark plugs etc. is all word of mouth on forums. There must be something.
