Went out this morning to look at a new VW Golf 1.5Tsi 150 bhp to replace my wife's 10 year old diesel Ford Focus. The dealer was offering a good deal on a new Match trim 150bhp DSG with around £3000 off list price. I didn't bite the bullet but came home and did some on-line research. Using CarWow and Autotrader I was able to beat his price by the same again with some unbelievably good deals on in stock cars. Do I sense some panic selling or is no one buying new cars? The dealership I was in this this morning was deserted and I had two salesmen keen to talk. Will gather my evidence and go back in on Monday and see what they can do.

End of year?
I had a Golf 8.5 on order from November, I was originally told it would be Feb, poss March delivery. Actually came much earlier and was told it would be at the dealer over the holiday period.

They called me late on the 30th to say it had arrived and could book collection on the 2nd. They then asked if they could register it on the 31st to hit their year end rather than wait until the 2nd.

Having sold VW's previously, I can't see any way they can offer you £6k off a car, unless it's a MK8 that's hanging around and not an 8.5, or there's a finance deposit contribution, Carwow are very misleading with their pricing and include finance deposit contributions in the discount. You only get something like 5-6% pre-VAT guaranteed margin and with back end money you might get another 6-8% assuming all targets and KPI's achieved.
