Currently in third month of our second A1. The 2025 MY has some added features, so now I do this before driving off:

1) press "CONTINUE" to access the media unit
2) press "STOP/START" button, to deactivate
3) deactivate the "LANE ASSIST"
4) deselect the "SPEED WARNING ALARM" from the media unit screen

That's a lot of nanny state intervention that is spoiling my driving experience. smile

Just turning off stop / start every journey is painful enough.

Won't 'sport' deactivate some of that? You need to er...press a button.

Just buy OBD11 and code them all to be off by default.

If you're doing all that before driving off, how is that spoiling your 'driving' experience?

Good luck with that. It's not that easy.

Because it is a pain in the butt to do it every time you start the car, which is all part of the overall driving experience.

Thankfully I only have to do it with the stop/start function on mine.

But it's not part of the driving experience, do it once at the start of a journey whilst stationary. I agree it may be spoiling your ownership experience however.

My driving experience starts the second I unlock the doors smile

Same with me. My VW was a PITA until I learnt how to set the thing up so I could just get in and drive.

Done it plenty of times, very easy assuming you're not tech illiterate

I can understand the lane assist and speed bonging, but start-stop seems pretty inoffensive. I've had two cars with it (Skoda and Audi) and they were fine. I'm not sure why people are so against it.

It doesn't take long to learn to manage it like you do the bite point of a clutch, and you quickly figure out how to keep it running in situations like approaching a roundabout. Apart from that it just did its thing and I ignored it.

Whether it actually achieved anything in terms of saving fuel is questionable, but it wasn't so offensive I'd go to the effort of switching it off every time.

That said, it does feel like this generation of cars is a low point for this kind of thing. Nobody asked for this stuff they're putting on them.

Why I'm glad that on my newest car I only have to switch off stop/start, fking useless tech, everytime we pick up a hire car I spend ages switching off all the so called safety features, and don't get me started on the fact it's all done on one huge screen or a fking app, IMHO it's tech "because we can" rather than what we need, if you can't keep a car in a lane between lines without some stupid warning then get a fking bus...

I don't know about lane assist etc. but I understand that coding the stop/start out is not so easy on newer models, probably due to the VW emissions scandals?

I have coded the stop/start using VCDS to 'remember last state' on my 2014 S4 and it was easy to do but on the newer cars, I believe it's not accessible and that to get round this, you generally need some kind of add-on device to automatically operate the switch on start-up or to change certain parameters that it then disables due to 'thinking' something is wrong, i.e engine temp, battery load etc.

Surely any speed warning alarm is configurable though?

Start stop is an easy one to deal with. You can purchase a small device from Amazon / ebay for under £20. It takes about ten minutes to fit. It connects in line with the wiring harness for the start/ stop button. It then leaves the system in the same state as when you turned the car off. Works a treat on my Golf.

I share the OP's frustration with modern tech. Driving my Wife's Ev requires a whole host of touch screen actions to turn off the useless Lane Keeping Tech.

These kind of tweaks were very easy but on the latest cars with extra protection it's not.

All these features should be able to be configured permanently off in settings so each driver can tailor to their preference (much like on your phone you can configure stuff on/off). This is what the OP is getting at.
Having to buy an after market box is compensating for poor UI software design imo. Also would some insurers deem this as an undeclared modification in the event of a claim?

(Not having a go at your suggestion at all (very helpful), just having a go at the imo poor UI software design that forces these features on unwilling users).
