I’m picking up my new (to me) car tomorrow, 2018 VW Golf estate, 2.0 150bhp diesel.

I’m after a bit more poke. Where would people recommend for a remap? Mileage is 50,000.

Where are you based?

Always stick to tried and trusted tuners, a lot of people will comment "a custom tune is best" but, a tried and trusted off the shelf tune is far better than some "custom tune" of somebody who doesn't actually know what they are doing.

Dont get drawn in by cheap flashes from a man in a van, they buy their maps cheap.

Darkside developments having been tuning VW group diesels since about 2008 for example.

Revo are a well trusted tuner, they have agents all over.
Depends on your location.

Cheers. I’m north west, so happy to travel to Cheshire/Manchester/Merseyside/Lancashire. Further if that’s a better option. Realistically I’m going to own this car a while so want it right.

What should I be looking to pay?

Around £400 normally, some do charge a lot more though. Awesome Gti are another respected place.

AwesomeGTI near Manchester , looks like they charge £349 including rolling road session which is decent, they are sold as their own maps, they wont be , they will be purchased from somebody else like Celtic or Avon etc but atleast their will be support if you have issues.

Awesome also sell Racingline (formely Volkswagen Racing) OEM+ software for the 2.0TDI engines, this will be more than £349 though.

Is the car manual or DSG? I've owned both over the years, DSG cars, depending on how involved with the driving you want to be can be vastly improved with a DSG tune as well.

Ive seen both Celtic and Avon, they have good feedback. I know very little about them though. I have looked at Avon before as they are not that far from me.

Superchips are no longer Superchips, they were bought out by some company who also runs a company called "Remap Kingz" or similar.

Before they were bought out, they opened a new development centre in Milton Keynes, well I saw opened, they just installed a RR in another companies unit, I spoke to that company after and they said we are no longer associated with Superchips.

I had an Avon file on my daily run around a few years ago (2010 diesel smart car) it went well after, no complaints.

My current car, 2017 Alfa Giulietta, Celtic are the recommended tuner of these, I'm actually due to go down to their development centre in Derby sometime soon, my car is a 1.4 150 but they also did a 1.4 170, both engines are exactly the same, so Celtic want to try their 170 file on my car rather than their 150 file.

It’s the manual, definitely feels like an improvement over my very leggy (165,000 mile, 2008) Saab 9-3 estate.
