My 2009 B8 Audi A4 avant with 3.0 tdi v6 engine has developed a fault.

VCDS code reader shows:

5188 - Particulate Filter (Bank 1)
5390 - Left Engine Mount Solenoid Valve (N144)
5189 - Particulate Trap Bank 1

Any ideas what to do here? A mobile DPF cleaner guy told me that this is a dpf out job. Can one of the cleaning cans poured down the o2 sensor help here?

Any help appreciated. I have a flashing yellow coil symbol, Engine management light and also occasion DPF fault on the dash.

The engine mount solenoid is most likely a new engine mount required.

I've tried cleaner-in-a-can stuff before on a Citroen and it didn't do anything much. I took the DPF out, soaked it in cleaner and backflushed it.

Replace the engine mount assuming wiring/connector not damaged. Lemforder mounts are OEM and inexpensive from Autodoc.

Sounds like DPF will want removal and cleaning but you need to establish why it's clogged or it'll happen again in short order. Unlikely tins of snake oil will do anything other than cost money.

This guy absolutely knows his stuff if you're anywhere near, https://www.orileysautos.com/

(His youtube channel is worth a watch to learn about this stuff)

Do you run it on half a tank or less all the time?

Is it getting up to full temp.?

If not fill it up and drive hard until warm, then find some traffic to sit in and let the temp get up, it should regen.

Do not turn it off if it is in regen, it may feel differnt and smoke heavily.

If you do fill it, take off DPF clean it and drill a large hole through it, refit and carry on.

Thanks all.

Engine management light is now off. The coil is still flashing. I will read the codes out again first thing tomorrow and post here.

I can see a couple of methods of cleaning the DPF.

1) Try to drive it, high revs at motorway speeds - this didn't work for me
2) Force Regen using VCDS or Ross-Tech - i will try this, but don't hold hope
3) Remove the DPF and have this cleaned
4) Pour DPF cleaner into the DPF at home - Dr G not approved
5) Get one of the DPF cleaner guys to come and visit and do their stuff

Does number 5 work? I have a quote for around £350 inc vat for this.

I stand corrected - In y desperation to get the car working, i fell for the marketing by the businesses who come to your house and pour Dodo blood into the DPF. I am sorry.

I will watch some Youtube videos to see how hard it is to remove the dpf and give to a specialist for cleaning. In fact i might ask my local mechanics to take the dpf out of the car for me......

You need to find out what’s causing it to block, they only block because something causes it.

Never filling the fuel tank is the biggest culprit and self inflicted lol. But the OP doesn't want to read that.

Can't help stupid.

Tank is always filled with Shell V Power Diesel. It never goes under a quarter of a tank.

Thanks, Stupid.

I bought the car a year ago, from a probate sale. The older gent who had it was in a care home and the car was very little used and if used for short journeys. I suspect that the car dpf is blocked due to this.

Ok, I will get this booked in with my local mechanics to take a look and diagnose.
