Dreaded DSG problem on SEAT Tarraco, Dealer Issues.
Discussion
Hi
My daughter bought a Seat Tarraco (1.5 petrol Auto) via Cinch (I know, I know!) approx 6 weeks ago. After about a week a warning message came up stating 'Gearbox fault emergency mode' or something similar. The car comes with a Cinch 90 day warranty so they told her they would arrange for it to go into the nearest SEAT main dealer for diagnosis/repair.
There was a 3 week wait before the SEAT dealer could look at the car. It's been there a week now and apparently there is some problem with their diagnostic equipment and also we have been told that they have "raised a ticket" with the SEAT factory for advice and are hoping to hear back "sometime this week". The 'suspicion' is that it's a faulty mechatronic unit.
My concern is that this seems to be dragging on rather a lot. My daughter likes the car and didn't want to reject it within the initial 30 days the consumer rights act allows for and I guess we are now into the 6 month period where the vendor has one chance to fix the problem otherwise we can still reject it. I'm a bit surprised that a main dealer can't just diagnose and fix a fault and I've never heard of them having to "raise a ticket" with the factory (maybe it's more common than I realise). It's been with them a week and they still don't even have a definitive idea of what the fault is, never mind actually fixing it.
Meantime, Cinch have found a loophole which means that they don't have to provide my daughter with a courtesy car and the SEAT dealer apparently don't have any, so she is currently borrowing our car.
I was just wondering what folks here thought of this situation in general and what you would do in our situation? Is the timescale reasonable? Are we allowed to impose a date to say "fix the car by X or we reject it" Can this just run and run? Is there anything more we should be doing?
Sorry if that all rambled a bit but all thoughts and advice gratefully received!
Thanks in advance
