Mk7 Golf Clubsport-S
Discussion
Hi All,
I fancy getting into a 2017 Clubsport-S.
I've been watching the market for a while now, and appreciate they are few and far between.
Prices seem to be anywhere between reasonable and crazy, but it seems that so many have been stuffed away as 'Investments' and when those investments haven't materialised they are wheeled out of the garage and put up for sale with flaky servicing and MOT histories.
Assuming i do end up buying such a car, what do i need to be looking for in those histories? Is there a bare-minimum of servicing/maintenance expected/required or do i really need a full VAG history? I don't want to be buying a super-low mileage car which is just going to be a heap of trouble.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I bought mine (black with a/c) 18 months ago with 4000 miles on it, having been in various specialised storage places. It had been serviced annually and even had front diff oil and plug change etc. It was - and is - immaculate top and bottom, detailed and ceramic coated etc. I have done 4500 miles in it since owning and had no trouble except for a leaking sump (they are plastic and can weep). I upgraded to VW steel pan. I have replaced the battery and all tyres (due to age).
They are fantastic cars. I used to have a GT3 but it was simply too much for public roads. This may sound daft: the CS has a similar vibe but is so much better suited to the real world. And so much cheaper to run
As for values: early to mid thirties for a good one. I paid £36,750 for mine and would sell in current market for £33K.
I have never seen another one on the road, just one on the back of delivery truck on the M6 (says it all really). Shame as these are cars to be driven.
Edited to add: you don't need full VAG history as long as looked after by decent garages. Mine was VAG until last few years when it was serviced by APS (they have sold around 25 Clubsport S and store and service more) with the last one at Litchfield.

Thanks for the replies.
I've found a Jan-17 CS, with 12500miles, but these are the aspects that are raising concerns:
Servicing: Nothing VAG at all. No evidence of servicing prior to 2020, and then annual oil services from a mobile mechanic. Major service from a reputable garage in November 2025. Replacement Key as part of that major service.
MOT: No MOT History from 2020 to June 2025
Thoughts?

Be careful. Although none of that is a major concern on a low mileage car, and one that has almost certainly been stored for a period, the history on these needs to be perfect to justify the asking prices. I would look elsewhere.
What is the asking price?
PS Mine was MOT'd every year when due even when in storage. Same with servicing. Overkill yes, but reassuring to me as a purchaser.
