Audis and Michelin tyres.

One of my favourite tyres is Michelins having had Pilot Sport 3, 4, 4S and 5 fitted to my old A6 and A5. The main issue with them is noise as they wear.

This is due, I’ve learned to the phenomenon of the tyre blocks sawtoothing on the inner edges, even with a correct alignment set up. Common it seems due to the inside of rear wheels scrubbing on corners.

I’ve tried to minimise this by swapping the tyres front to back every 9,000 miles at service time. However, the current set of PS5s on my 2015 A5 3.0TDi Quattro are now starting to make an annoying humming noise, like the PS4Ss did, which only becomes really noticeable on French billiard table smooth road surfaces.

My wife’s newer A5 Sportback - a 2017 2.0TDi ultra came with Hankook Ventus Evo tyres which are getting changed soon. Despite needing changing, they don’t suffer from the same horrible humming noise as the Michelins. They still grip well, so I’m tempted to move from Michelins to Hankooks on my A5.

Look at Goodyear Eagle F1 Assemetric 6. I found theee much quieter than PS4s on my old Golf and found them a generally much better tyre. Only thing with the Goodyears the sidewall is softer so turn in isn’t as sharp.

You should try PS4's on U.S. roads. Unbelievably loud. That being said, I did embarrass a Gti the other day by not bothering to brake for a bend and catching him completely unawares after he wanted to race, so they're worth it. Probably going to replace them with PS5's as they are meant to be slightly more touring oriented and quieter, though the Eagles mentioned above are also on the list.
