I'm going through the motions of getting my car back on the road after a 3 year lay off. Most issues have been dealt with and she's running and sounding great (courtesy of a Scorpion cat back stainless steel system). A fueling issue was eventually dealt with - by locating a 4 bar pump and splicing it in to my existing housing. A problem remains though....spongy brakes.

before she was laid up she had a smashing brake pedal. Nice and firm with good bite. This was besides the ABS system not working. Since replacing the disks and pads there's a sponginess to the pedal. The brakes have been bled over and over. I'm assured the ABS pump was bled too. The master cylinder was replaced. Nothing has yielded any improvements. Tomorrow the flexis are going to be inspected one by one to rule those out. But I'm at a bit of a loss to be honest.

Any suggestions where I may be going wrong please?

I had a similar issue with a Vectra that had been laid up for three or so years. The valves in the ABS block had stuck.

A good secondhand block solved the problem. I tried getting the existing one rebuilt but the company I chose didn’t do a good job at all, and the problem remained!

I would replace old hoses personally but it sounds like you have all bases covered, do you have to activate the older Abs stuff like the modern Vag cars to bleed it properly?

I had my abs pump replaced and the pedal was never as good as it was - despite promises from the specialist that the abs unit was bled properly.
