Having heard horror story after horror story when it comes to ownership of RS cars I just wondered whether this was true or all a falicy.

I'm in the market for a 'bigger' vehicle which will transport me, the wife, future kids & a couple of dogs. The short list includes an RS6.

My main concern is being woken up in the middle of the night by a stranger demanding keys for it. It wouldn't be a new one, maybe a year or two old, but still probably 40k's worth of car.

I don't have a garage & therefore whatever I buy will be parked outside the house on the road, albeit in a decent area.

Are they still prime targets ?

If you are worried then I'd debadge it.
Most people will just think it's a normal A6.

My RS4 lives in my garage.

I don’t know whether I can really comment as I’ve never left mine overnight on the street although my general opinion is it's no more a prime target than any other car really. If you want a bit more anonymity then de-badge it.

Do you think de-badging it really helps ? I mean, the people who would be interested in it would surely recognise it from the wheels/exhausts/mirrors, etc, etc.

I've only got an old S4 that lives on the street and it is so understated no one would look twice at it. However there is a 2 yr old RS4 on my street that seems to survive fine. I think RS's look sufficiently similar to a normal Audi to avoid most attention.

Ensure the house is adequately secured and answer the door late at night with a baseball bat or sufficently large maglite to hand. :-)

I don't think de-badging would make much difference. About 4 years ago thieves broke into our house at 3AM. Luckily we always set the alarm on the ground floor at night - so once in, the alarm triggered and they scarpered. I thought at the time that it was a normal break in. However, it later came to light that it was a specialist team that were targeting high performance Audis and VWs. My VW was de-badged - they still found it - although failed to get it.
