Audi Specialist in Manchester anyone???
Discussion
My 2000 plate S3 is due a service in the next week or so. I've decided to end the full Audi service from here - it's had about 6 years of Audi Healthcare, but I don't want to pay over the odds for an out-of-warranty car for a job a VAG specialist will do just as well.
I've found a garage in Manchester called Awesome GTi which is supposedly a VAG specialist although the name worries me into thinking they sell gigantic exhausts and neon washer jets. But as this is the only one I can find, can anyone suggest a few more?
P.S. Does anyone know the cambelt change on a S3 1.8T 210 engine? Is it 60 or 80K?
Ta very much

You could not afford a cambelt change no matter when it needs replacing! HAHAH
Hey at least I don't drive a diesel with negative bhp 'Hoddo'!
Hay it gets me from A > B and it has a radio which nearly always lets me listen to any radio station without an horrible earthing sound coming through the speakers!
Not used them personally, but Awesome have an A1 reputation to the best of my knowledge. They built a mate's M1 Golf G60 way back when and the quality of workmanship and attention to detail was second to none. I've been looking on their website as they do cruise control refit for only £200 so no doubt I'll be paying them a visit soon too. I'd be interested to hear how you get on.

Funnily enough I asked the same question on this forum about 2mths ago, and someone recommended Awesome GTI to me, I too had the same reservations about the name etc but they turned out to be fine.
I took my 51 plate S3 in for it's 60K service and had the cambelt done (Audi say 80k but I heard far too many horror stories so had it done at 60), the water pump replaced (again not an official service item but have heard that the plastic impellers can snap off - no cooling = sha**ed engine), the tensioners etc replaced and the usual service items (oil, filter etc) done for about £600 inc. VAT.
Sounds like a lot of money, but I got quoted about £320 for just the service (no belts etc)from Audi in Stockport, so seemed pretty reasonable.
I did get a courtesy car but it was a sha**ed out mk2 golf gti they had lying around - think this was either a bit of an after thought or because I'm quite a young lad they may not have trusted me in anything dearer!! (despite dropping said S3 off)!!
P.S also had mine set back to 10k servicing as I reckon that as the miles get higher, up to 20K is stretching it a bit.
Hope this helps

Awesome's reputation is fantastic, such that someone I work with drove from Cambridge to get a nice deal on a subtle Milltek exhaust. Said they were very pleasing to deal with.
I have ordered many an item from them, brakes, DV and also clutch advice, and it's been sound. Speak to Dean, Ade, or Sarah, they all know their stuff and will look after you.
Cannot do anything except recommend

Thank you all for your replies - i'll book my car in as it's got 100 miles left to service.
May as well change cam belt but i've not been planning on a £600+ service!! But if it needs doing then it needs doing and i'll quit my bitching. Apart from i've just broken the wing mirror glass...

Cam belts should be changed every four years or 80K which ever is sooner. I would also change the water pump at the same time as all the belts have to come of to change it and they do fail. GSF do a brass impella pump at around the same price as the plastic VAG item.
Awesome are very good. I have found them helpful with excellent customer care. I have only ever used them for mail order products and advice though.
They are an established independant specialist who not only cater for the those who want huge alloys and large 'zorsts' but also those who prefer the more subtle approach.
