Audi S3 ' Facelift Model' How can I tell

I'm looking at Audi S3's , and I keep seeing ppl advertise 'Facelift' Model. Can any of you explain to me the difference between a pre facelift and a facelift model.

I am also looking at a 2001 X reg he also says it's a '225 Facelif' , I contacted Audi customer care and they said that it is a 210 !!

Please help as im riping my hair out

Different grille, aluminium sleeved gear shift lever, modified S3 logo, digital clock instead of analogue clock, a rear light cluster tweak.

I can see the facelift has no divide between the indicator and front lihts, where as the pre fl does. My last question and probably most important, how can I tell what bhp it is, 210 or 225, apart from driving it . I'm looking at a couple of cars that say 225, but when ive rung audi they said its a 210 bhp.

Have a look in the boot (under the carpet)

There should be a sticker with all the details on it including the power output.

If it says 154Kw then it's a 210.

The same sticker is on the inside of the service history book.

The 210 was available in the facelift model. I had a 2000/X model which was facelifted but only 210bhp.

This is a pre facelift rear.

Note the differences in the rear light clusters, the front lights are 1 piece on the facelift model and the differences in the S3 badges.

S3's always seem expensive to me for their age. What else have you looked at?

I dive a golf 4motion as some of you may know in other threads, Basically S3's the only car ive looked at, as I only buy German cars, I can't really think of anything else to buy

The 225 wasn't released till 2002 so the one you are looking at will be 210. I wouldn't worry about it - a lot of the 210's dynoed higher than 210 anyway. If you get it chipped then there's no difference between 210 or 225, they both end up at the same 250ish.

Cool, this info is really helping, thanx all,even though one months difference so your info was spot on,but I just looked on the audi website and NOV 2001 was the upgraded engine (165 kW) so I will look for that when I look at one, there are lots of ppl quoting 225 at 2000/x 2001 marks, so thats why I need to be sure of this, so basically a Y reg onwards could be/is a 225.

If its a 225 the sticker under the boot carpet will say BAM on it, this is the 225's engine code.
