Touareg: which engine?
Discussion
I had the 2.5 Tdi till a few months ago and was very impressed with it.
The 3.0 diesel is better but the options thrown in with the 2.5 swayed me at the time.
The 5.0 litre diesel V10 is a fantastic motor too, with great performance.
Go to a dealer and try both out.
I sold mine because of lack of use and pretty hefty BIK whilst it was sat in the garage and I was sat on the bike!

I've got the 4.2 V8. Get about 20mpg. Suits the car really well.
The 3.2 V6 petrol achieves only marginally better mpg because it has to be worked harder than the V8.
If I was doing big miles I'd go for the 3.0 diesel, but they're fairly new still and so quite expensive.
If you're buying brand new then I think there's a 3.6(?) petrol V6 that might be worth a look.

We have the V10 (girlfriend's car). It is a pretty good engine. We get about 21-22 round town and between 23(me driving) & 28mpg (GF driving).
It is pretty quick too (about BMW 330 acceleration up to 110ish - surprises lots of people), will happily cruise at 120 all day long if required (showing only 3000rpm).
The autobox is good, but there can be a little hesitation pulling out of junctions unless in sport mode. The tiptronic function works well.
The V10 comes with plenty of toys as well including the air suspension which is good, we leave it in sports mode almost all of the time as the ride is fine and roll is kept in check.
When we were looking at the Touaregs we looked at all the engine options, but decided if we got anything else we would have ended up hankering after the V10.

Already got one of those (would be kind of nice to have two 5 litres, a petrol and a diesel)
Thanks guys, looks like I have to try all the engines then (except the 2.5 RDI which is supposed to be noisy?).
Will try the Disco too.
