Hi there,

Have been driving past my local Audi dealer here in Derby for the past couple of weeks hoping to be able to have a look at the new R8. Finally today they have one in the showroom. It is a gorgeous Black R8 with matching Black interior and is absolutely stunning in the flesh. Had a quick look round it and have to I really like it, can't wait to have a good look at one and get some decent pictures.

Sorry for the poor quality pics but only had my camera phone on me today.

Regards

Tim

I took a couple of pics of a red R8 doing passenger laps at the Nurburgring earlier this month.

I might have to drive past me nearest Audi dealer tomorrow smile

You guys need to read this months evo. I'm suddenly slightly envious of all those with enough money to be on the waiting list.

They put it in a group test on European roads against the 997 Carrera4, ASton V8 Prodrive & BMW M6. The result surprises even the evo boys, but it is pretty dam unanimous clap
The R8 is also faster round the Bedford track than the Koenigsegg CCX, 2006 Gallardo, 997 GT3 etc and apparently an absolute blast with it. Car in question has a manual gear box and doesn't even have the optional ceramic brakes.

I came to the same conclusion that it was more desirable than a 997 C4 when I drove the cars back to back. I'm still slightly astonished at its relative lap time versus a 997 GT3 though.

I managed to blag an invite to my dealer's R8 launch event this evening. It is a very nice car isn't it biggrin I thought the quality of the whole car including the interior was superb. Obviously a very high spec of car at the advertised price and it's not the colour scheme that I would have chosen either, I think I would have had the contrasting silver sideblades and grey interior.

90k for that vw! ouch. is that the V10 or V8 model?

that is GT3 money with change for a years running cost for tyres.

Time will see how it shifts as its bang in 911 territory but is it as good?

lovely looking motor though and finished so well.

According to Evo it is better than the GT3

and you believe EVO!

come on that mag went down hill years ago! if it aint a red ferrari then its a pants car.

give me the GT3 anyday! lighter, faster and the total package.

i got a mate who works at audi and the rumour is the R8 will get the V10 from the RS6 with twin turbos pushing out 570 bhp so not comparable to a gallardo. should go well with that much chuff!!

erm excuse me for asking this rather silly question but why does everyone keep comparing the standard, non-lightened not specially engined or bespoke suspension R8 to the track day special GT3?
its a pretty pointless comparison. now a carrera s that makes more sense.

The comparison is made because Evo mag (who have always favoured the 911 against everything else, including Ferrari IMHO) did a review which showed that around their test track the R8 was faster than the GT3.

So if a standard R8 is faster than a GT3 it's going to be a faster than a Carrera S.

and an Atom is faster still. Just makes Evo wrong to compare it under those circumstances doesn't make it a decent comparison of driving feel or handling prowess does it?

You don't read the magazine then.... I haven't read any such bias - it isn't the magazine that has dedicated almost a whole mag to Ferrari cos it was 60!

The Atom is a different, more track orientated class of car.

The Audi is in the same class as the 911, Aston V8 and BMW M6. Comparing those cars is sensible. As the Audi has 415bhp and the GT3 has 409bhp it suggests that it has superior handling on that track.

There seems to be a massive reluctance to acknowledge what a fine car the Audi is. Change the badge on the nose and I'm sure it would be receiving far more accolades.
