Went for a trip down to the south coast last weekend and my 2000 A4 and the car just stopped like it had ran out of fuel.

The AA did their best to get it going again but to no avail, i got it recovered home and booked it in to a local independant.
I have been informed its either the pump or the loom, the car has done 142k miles and ran perfect before the sudden stop.

Has anyone else had a pump failure? and what was the cost?

At least the sun was out for the week "down south" smile, thankfully the old Pug 306 came to the rescue

If they couldnt test for voltage down the loom the wiring loom then i wouldnt pay for them to whack a new fuel pump on. Could be anything and best off getting the faults read as you can have things cut off the fuel pump, such as a faulty crash sensor.

The faults have been read and I was told the loom or the pump, they are checking the readings off the pump this week.

They do fail, generally when the fuel filter is changed during a service and not primed correctly. This shortens the life of the pump. Also I have seen pumps fail on cars that have run a lot "red" diesel.

I have broken a 1999 2.5 A6 and have a spare pump and turbo if you are stuck.

Exchange pumps from Audi are very expensive iro £1500
