2001 2.5 Tdi diagnonstic help.
Discussion
Hello folks,
I may need an ECU
I managed to borrow a snap-on ECU ready from a local garage who trusted me to take care of it, after my trusty T4 gave up. It would randomly cut out. The glow plug light would come on if this helps.
The diagnostic reported:
01039 Sensor Coolant Temp Gauge - G2
Open Circuit / Short with Power error.
Occurs Intermittent
01314 Engine ECU no communication
This was rattling the relay 109 the other night, however it stopped. I presumed relay 109 had given up. Tried a friends relay from another 2.5 so suspect something more sinister.
Is this Sensor circuit locking the access to the ECU out?
I did take the ECU off and open the casing for a good sniff to see if it smelt fried, but seemed OK, nothing visual to report either.
I haven’t the foggiest where this sensor is either, but found to things that looked like they could be them, so I disconnected the connectors but still the same error.
Any Idea's?

The engine coolant temperature sender is quite a common fault with all VAG cars. Even though it'd be unlikely, it's not unheard of for the coolant temp sender to cause the engine to cut out. But seeing as there's another fault with the ECU being blocked, i'd say they're separate faults. I suspect the cutting out would be caused by an immobiliser fault. Check systems 25(immob) and 17(dash panel) with the code reader and see if anythings logged up.
