New RS6 undergoes final testing

Next RS Audi testing at the ‘Ring

These are the latest pictures of what is generally regarded as being the next Audi RS6.

As you can see, the M5 rival is now being allowed out with hardly any disguise over its ‘RS4 style’ enhancements. The usual bulging wheel arches are present, along with enlarged air intakes and large wheels.

Under the bonnet – if rumour is correct, sits a twin-turbo version of the 5.2 litre V10 powerplant already found in the S6 model (as well as the S8, and of course in closely related form, the Lamborghini Gallardo).

Although its power output is unknown, it seems likely that a blown version of the S6 lump (that produces 429bhp) could easily match the current M5’s 500bhp. Considering how Audi raised the class bar with the RS4, we’d guess the new RS6 will knock out around 550bhp.

The advent of the RS6 probably spells the end for its junior brother. Audi has stated that only one ‘RS’ model will be on sale at any one time, so the RS4 will probably meet its end in 2008. In doing so it looks set to become one of the most revered and collectable of all Audis.

Something doesn't seem right. Although puffed up as one would expect, this eems to drop the LED running light spars in the air vents and also has just two tailpipes as opposed to four on the S6. Both would seems steps backwards. Might this be some other model instead?

You would have thought Audi could come up with something slightly more visually interesting for that V10 to live in... looks like the dull as dishwater passat with nice wheels.

I like the fact that it looks discreet, but could rip your face off when you plant your right foot.

I like the R8 look, with the 'side blades' replaced with a different coloured door!

the front spoiler doesn't look finished so I wouldn't worry too much about the lights, they might add them later.
As for the twin exhausts, they are in fact an RS trademark. four pipes is M class trademark.

I would like to test drive it first, I hope the RS6 handles better an any other "A6" Audi have produced.

Looks like I'd better start saving harder for an RS4 then.

they did the same with the s4 - rs4 though, with the former having 4 tailpipes, and the latter 2 ovals..

Hopefully they can sort out the crashy ride of the S6 with this. If it is anything like as harsh as that of the old RS6, they will be in trouble.

That said, the stealthy nature of this will be awesome. I saw this in the metal at the ring, and it looked very very mean. The photos don't do it justice. The arches and the pipes look great in the metal.

Here's hoping it looks better in the metal! imo it doesn't look as aggressive as the old model. Although the photo only show the uglier (sp) saloon wink

Does it still use DRC?

Well, there's the rub!

"Hespen said Audi will continue its tradition of offering only one "RS" model at a time, meaning the RS6 will have to wait for the 2009 model year (mid-calender 2008) to enter the fold."

If the RS6 comes out 2009, for 2 years? were will that leave an RS5? There have also been supposed spy shots of a TTRS (or whatever they may call it).

Have to say I wasn't aware of this "one RS at a time" policy, but if true it would be one hell of a shame... BMW manage M3, M5, M6...

I'd humbly suggest that the RS2 more ably fills the collectable role. smile
