Help Needed - Speedometer stopped working

Hello all,

I currently have a 1999 VW Passat VR6 and two nights ago we had a lot of rain and the roads were soaked and had large puddles everywhere. On the drive home trying to avoid as many of them as I could the car cut out briefly and I bump started it as I will still moving. Everything was fine but the speedo stopped working.

I pulled over and turned the car off and on and it still does not work.

At first I though the wire had just gotten wet but the next day it still would not work.

I take it the speedo is pulled into the gearbox and if so can this have just come loose? Any help would be gratefully received including where I should look first and what I should be looking for.

Could this be a fuse? If so where is the fuse box on a Passatt. I bought the car 2nd hand with no owners manual and it looks like it could be the sealed unit on the back right as you look under the hood. Is this correct?
